Tree Cabling

Cabling is the securement of 2 or more limbs or leaders in a tree with a cable. The cable is placed 2/3 of the way up from a tree crotch where it can provide optimal support. This is sometimes necessary to stabilize poor structure in a tree. This could be due to “V” shaped crotches between the limbs or leaders of a tree that are prone to failure in wind events. Or, it could be due to a very large or old tree that needs a little support to keep its long limbs where they belong on the tree. By attaching one leader to another with the strong steel cable it helps to keep the leader secure and minimizes the chance of failure. Having an ISA Certified Arborist inspect your trees for structural defects is the first step towards knowing if your trees need cables.

Cabling is done at Druid City Arborists using 3/16″, 5/16″, or 3/8″ Extra High Strength(EHS) Cable. They are secured with Rig Guy Wire Stops and follow ISA Best Management Practices.

5/16″ Extra High Strength cable is installed in a pecan tree that has a defect in the crotch of the tree leaders.
Rig Guy Wire Stops are used to terminate this 5/16″ EHS cable in this pecan tree.
